Major League Draft after he was named Mountain West Player

Postby elvafeng » Fri Jul 28, 2017 8:09 pm

Ex Buchanan High/Fresno State standout Jordan Luplow will join the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday in San Diego, earning his first major league call up after less than a month in Triple A.

The Pirates have not made an announcement, but family in Clovis confirmed the news after the Twitter account Erik Kratz Jersey for Fresno State baseball was first to reveal the promotion. His coach at Buchanan, Tom Donald, added his congratulations.

Luplow’s mom, Rebecca, said she and husband Mark along with two aunts and an uncle will be at Petco Park. Donald also will be there.

“It’s kind of unbelievable,” Rebecca Luplow said. “I’m waiting to see his name on the roster.”

Luplow’s grandparents on his mom’s side happened to be in Indianapolis to catch some of his games. He received word after they had dinner Wednesday night, Rebecca Luplow said, and was to fly out to join the Pirates during their current West Coast road trip.

Pittsburgh finished a series in San Francisco on Wednesday , has an off day Thursday, and opens a weekend series Friday in San Diego.

The Pirates are in need of a boost. After dropping 2 of 3 to the last place Giants, Pittsburgh is 50 52, fourth and four games back in the National League Central and 7.5 out of the second wild card spot.

Luplow, 23, was drafted in the third round of the 2014 Major League Draft after he was named Mountain West Player of the Year for the Bulldogs.

This season, Luplow has played 94 games for Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis. He debuted with the Triple A Indians on June 30 and in 21 games is hitting .324 with five homers and three doubles.

Luplow batted third for Indianapolis on Wednesday and was 0 for 3 but reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

With Altoona, he hit .287 with 16 home runs, 15 doubles and 37 RBIs. He was one one of five players representing the Curve at the Eastern League All Star Game.
